University Hospitals is proud to offer employment opportunities to those students who were referred by, and are currently completing Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) coursework through, Central School of Practical Nursing.

LPNs provides safe, efficient, age specific nursing care to patients and families using nursing interventions in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status. The licensed practical nurse provides, to individuals and groups, nursing care requiring the application of basic knowledge of the biological, physical, behavioral, social, technological and nursing sciences. Nursing care is provided at the direction of a licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist or registered nurse.

This opportunity will follow the “Earn and Learn” model where selected candidates will be hired into paid Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) roles where nursing classes and labs will typically be held Monday- Thursday. Participants will attend classes two days a week, virtually or on campus, depending on level, beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. The daytime clinical day begins as early as 6:45 a.m. and ends at 3:00 or 3:30 p.m. Two days per week are spent in a clinical facility administering patient care under faculty guidance and supervision. UH performing PCNA responsibilities (days/hours may vary). PCNAs completes patient care activities as delegated by the RN and perform duties including, but not limited to, ADLs, vital signs, I’s and O’s, 12 lead ECG, bladder scan, hygiene and venipuncture where applicable.

The CSPN 46 week (approximately 10.5 months) program prepares students to obtain a Technical Certification as a LPN and sit for their NCLEX-PN upon program completion to obtain licensure as a LPN. Upon successful completion of the program and receipt of licensure, you will be promoted to a UH LPN.

Qualifications

  • Must be available for orientation starting 06/19/2023.
  • BLS certification must be obtained during UH Orientation
  • Must be an identified Student from either the CSPN October 2022 or April 2023 Cohorts.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
