GENERAL FUNCTION
This position will oversee and direct the activities of the Surfacing department. The supervisor will support a group of 10+ employees, to ensure production goals are met, and standard procedures are being documented and followed.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for the daily production through the Surfacing department.
  • Maintain performance records on employees, routinely communicates performance to employees and coaches employees on methods and techniques for improving performance, including reviewing time records.
  • Participate in the hiring, orientation and training of new Surfacing personnel.
  • Assure that all safety standards are maintained in the work area.
  • Maintain department budget including labor and equipment costs.
  • Assist in analyzing and recommending the purchase of new equipment for the Surfacing department as needed.
  • Analyze problems that arise and determine actions that will minimize the problems, decrease costs and/or improve yields, recommend changes to Production Manager and, upon approval, implement those changes.
  • Manage projects to improve processes throughout the department for the purpose of improving production and quality levels.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Work with lab management and HR to staff the Surfacing department.
  • Schedule Surfacing employees work time and vacation time.
  • Evaluate performance of employees, and discipline employees according to company policy as needed. Train Surfacing employees on new processes or to improve skills.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience leading a group of 10 or more employees.
  • Familiar with Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers; user computer skills including use of e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Previous optical experience in a lab production environment.
  • Two year degree or equivalent in a related field with proven on the job experience working in a production environment.
  • Strong planning, communication and organizing skills a must.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet production goals.
  • Demonstrated competence in supervisory skills: motivating employees to meet performance goals, strong communication skills, comfortable with coaching and training individuals and teams.

Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills and local minimum wage requirements.
