General purpose of the job
Provide the Plant Organization with leadership, guidance, strategic planning and execution in the short term and long-term operation of the Plant to ensure that defined goals of the Plant are achieved and sustained. The prime objective of the Operations Manager is to meet the production programs within defined standards of quality and cost, to maintain a permanent effort towards increasing efficiency and productivity, and to manage people and assets, without jeopardizing the future of the plant and with respect to the surrounding communities and environment.
Individual accountabilities
- Take special care in managing human assets of the plant, ensuring that employees have adequate working conditions, are properly trained and developed and is correctly protected in regard to occupational health and safety
- Responsible for the safety and health of employees, contractors, and visitors within his areas of responsibility.
- Ensure that plant/business unit objectives are achieved through advanced action plans to contribute to maximize company results
- Ensures operating compliance to all governmental regulations and permits.
- Achieve the annual training and development plan goals for his area of responsibility.
- Responsible for the day to day performance of the Plant within Production and Maintenance.
- The scope of this position encompasses all of plant installations and associated properties and covers all activities of each individual reporting directly to the incumbent. The coordination of these different activities has to be done with the permanent concern of ensuring the future of company activities on the site, in regards to decisions affecting the plant operation, the life of quarries and equipment, the human assets, the environment and the local communities. More specifically, a special care has to be given in order to avoid production being detrimental to other activities such as quality, preventive maintenance, environment, etc. Overall, all activities have to be developed in accordance with our Missions and Guiding Principles.
- Ensure operating permits (air, water, etc.) are updated to operate plant
- Ensure monitoring and achievement of monthly and annual costs forecasts for his/her area of responsibility to contribute to the business results
- Ensure the achievement of production and maintenance commitments, including product quality commitments (MQOs).
- Assures overall activities are in balance, i.e., Quality, Maintenance Environmental, Cost, Safety and Production.
- Responsible on a monthly and yearly basis for the Plant’s performance against the approved operating budget and forecasts.
- Reviews plant operating performances to ensure adherence to approved production schedules, quality standards, cost standards, shipping plans, and inventory levels. Develops and implements plans to deal with non- conformance to standards and commitments. Review over all departmental performance and actions being taken on a timely, frequent basis
- Responsible for any other duties needed to help drive to our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Organization’s Values
- Develop and follow up on environmental objectives to achieve business objectives
- Achieve outstanding safety performance, which is measured by MSHA incidence rate, MSHA S&S citations and Plant Safety Index.
Education
Educational Level: Bachelor’s Degree
Education Major: 4 Year Degree, prefer in Engineering or equivalent experience
Technical knowledge and certifications
- Good team building skills

- Cement operating experience
- Good communication skills
- Excellent planning skills
- Strong computer literacy with various software programs
- Department Management experience in multiple areas
