The Operations Manager is a member of the management team and participates in all management programs. Directs the activities of the Graphics, Printing, Forming and Maintenance departments relating to production of WIP and finished goods through subordinate supervisors. Coordinates with other departments to ensure the safe, and timely utilization of material, equipment, and manpower.

Essential Functions

• Confers with management personnel to establish and maintain quality and production standards for both product and practices.
• Consults with engineering personnel, relative to changes to equipment or materials, to increase production throughput, reduce costs, and/or improve the quality of products.
• Revises production schedules and priorities to accommodate unforeseen events relating to raw materials, equipment, sales demands, personnel, weather, etc.
• Monitors the safety environment of the workplace and acts to eliminate unsafe conditions, practices, equipment, and personnel.
• Monitors Production employees with regards to staffing levels, skill levels, training requirements, safety, demonstrated performance, and acts to continuously improve the quality and ability of the work force.
• Coordinates Production and Maintenance activities with Tooling, Materials, and QA activities to generate maximum quality production with efficient utilization of materials, equipment, and manpower.
• Is a practitioner and champion of Huhtamaki Continuous Improvement and Safety processes. i.e., Emergency Evacuation, Lockout Tagout, Emergency Action Plan.
• Controls expenses including labor and overtime, equipment repair and replacement, equipment parts inventories, outside contractors and services thorough regular monitoring and approval of those expenditures.
• Ensures compliance with governmental agency regulations.
• Reviews new products and provides feedback via the Commercialization process.
• Generates department budgets within areas of responsibility.
• Compiles, stores, retrieves, and analyzes production related data. Generates reports as needed.

Required

Job Qualifications

• Working knowledge of computerized maintenance systems along with proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office and a CMMS.
• Well organized, resourceful, self-starter who enjoys multi-tasking and working in a challenging, lean, fast paced, team environment.
• Must have strong understanding of Maintenance management in the manufacturing sector.
• Must be a change agent.
• Ability to work with people at all levels, good teamwork, and interpersonal communications skills.
• Ability to lead and motivate others.

Preferred

• Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. BS in Engineering is a plus.
• Flexographic and lithographic printing experience and paper converting operations highly preferred.
• 6-10 years Production management experience in packaging industry. Flexographic and lithographic printing experience and paper converting operations highly preferred.
• Six Sigma qualified at the Green Belt level preferred and familiar with Lean Six Sigma.

Environment

• Requires walking (45%), standing (35%) and sitting (20%). Requires walking the production floor daily, twisting, bending/stooping, squatting/kneeling, and reaching above, at and below the shoulders. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand for extended periods of time.
• This position requires frequent communication with internal and external request for information regarding maintenance projects or activities. Must be able to speak or exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Hot humid environment during the summer months, noise levels always require hearing protection on the production floor.
• Vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
