How you’ll make an impact:

The Music Analysis team at Pandora is a foundational element of the Music Genome Project®. In this role you’ll be on the front lines, analyzing everything from hot new releases to venerable long-tail content.

What you’ll do:

• Classify musical characteristics into taxonomies
• Evaluate a large spectrum of detailed musical characteristics at the song level
• Succinctly express the most prominent aspects of an artist’s career and body of work

What you’ll need:

• Determine instrumentation & timbres of a song
• Versatility to be able to objectively evaluate music outside your own taste
• Transcribe melodies & evaluate the harmonic structure of a song
• Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
• Expert knowledge of current trends in electronic and pop music genres, with a deep understanding of mainstream, alternative and underground music across the eras
• Basic computer skills: Mac / PC
• Accurately characterize metric and formal structures
• Familiarity with current rap and r&b music is a plus
• Be conversant in the musical and cultural elements of various electronic music styles, with a strong understanding of genre influences found in modern mainstream and independent pop music
• Be a musician and be able to demonstrate knowledge equivalent to a 4-year music degree, including the ability to identify time signatures, chord qualities, melodic intervals, formal structure, etc. by ear
