Summary: PayPal’s Legal Operations team is seeking a Manager, Legal Billing and Operations to manage our global eBilling system and support the outside counsel management program. You will work with our legal team members, outside counsel, legal service vendors, and other PayPal departments to facilitate legal payments and vendor management. The Legal Operations team enables the legal department to serve the company by providing strategic planning, financial management, process optimization, outside counsel management, and technology expertise. As part of the Outside Counsel Management team, you will play a crucial role running the legal billing process and partnering with stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives and oversight. We are seeking someone who is customer-focused, tech-savvy, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment. This person will be encouraged to innovate and build upon current processes to deliver a world-class legal billing program. They will report to the Senior Manager of Legal Operations – Outside Counsel Management.

In your day-to-day role, you will:

  • Maintain eBilling reference guides and educational tools that support the eBilling solution and provide trainings to Legal Department team members on the eBilling system and processes
  • Help build and generate internal reporting on invoice aging, matter management, forecasting, firm reviews, and alternative fee agreements
  • Manage the Legal Department’s eBilling system. Provide exceptional billing support to the Legal Department and law firms, interacting independently with attorneys, outside counsel, executive assistants, and vendors
  • Proactively seek ways to improve current processes to maximize productivity, workflow, and efficiency in all aspects of the eBilling function
  • Resolve complex billing issues by working across multiple teams within PayPal, such as Accounts Payable, Finance, and Tax
  • Provide project support, reporting and analysis as requested in relation to outside counsel management and legal operations
  • Manage the onboarding process for law firms into our internal vendor management and eBilling systems, partnering with various internal control partners such as Privacy, Security, and more
  • Perform first-line review of invoices and timekeeper rates for compliance with billing guidelines and agreements; conduct periodic invoice audits
  • Drive collection of forecast and accrual data from internal stakeholders and law firms/vendors in support of the monthly forecasting exercise with Finance

What you need to bring:

  • Organization skills - can effectively triage a high volume of requests; consistently completes projects on-time with great attention to detail

  • High level of professionalism and exceptional client service skills
  • 5+ years of work experience in a legal billing environment; experience working with large in-house legal team preferred
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications with strong Excel and analytical skills; proven track record adopting and mastering new tools
  • Proactive mindset - takes ownership of an issue once aware of it, going the extra mile to seek out answers to problems that may fall outside your area of expertise. Consistently looking for ways to improve/enhance processes, find efficiencies, and think outside the box
  • Strong communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills; comfortable dealing with all levels in the organization

The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $64000 to $156750
