Job Description
Savage Services, an established materials management company, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic/Relief Equipment Operator who will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the Savage Maintenance Program.

Position Summary:
The successful candidate will maintain and repair coke handling process equipment. Equipment will range from but not limited to, belt conveyor systems, coke feeder/breaker systems, excavators, frontend loaders, skid steers, etc.
Here is what you will be doing:
  • Properly record and complete maintenance reports and service records
  • Maintain a clean work environment by removing trash and debris from all areas of responsibility including structures, offices, restrooms, break rooms, vehicles, etc.
  • Knowledge of rigging
  • Must understand and implement the Savage Maintenance Program
  • Maintain good relations and open communication with coworkers and management via radio and other proper means
  • Occasionally cover equipment operations when needed, IE frontend loader and excavator.
  • Complete PM services on plant and process equipment
  • Must be willing to perform any other special tasks assigned by management
  • Repair and maintain pumps, motors, hydraulics, conveyors, mobile and plant specific equipment
  • Practice Total safety procedures and rules
  • Maintain and report spare parts inventory
  • Perform a pre/post shift equipment inspections
Requirements of a successful Maintenance Mechanic:
  • Experience operating back hoe, front end loader, dozer, excavator or other heavy equipment.
  • Experience with applying safety regulations and written procedures within a refinery or chemical plant is a plus.
  • Experience with repairing and maintaining Heavy Equipment and Conveyor Systems
  • High School Diploma or greater
  • Experience with automated equipment and basic computers are a plus.
  • Practices and understands time management, is a self-starter with a positive outlook.
  • Experience with conveyors, changing rollers, pulleys, motors, belts, hoppers, crushers, magnets, scales, etc.
  • Must have a strong mechanical and electrical repair background.
  • Must understand the oil refining process and culture that comes with it.
  • Refinery or Industrial Plant Operations: experience with high safety standards and regulations associated with hazardous industrial plant environments.
  • Material Handling: experience in aggregate quarries, mills, or mines with material moving equipment such as hoppers, conveyors, reclaimers, and overhead bridge cranes and their process flow.
  • Knowledge and working experience with different types of welding and cutting.
  • Experience with heavy equipment maintenance, trouble shooting and repair.
Here are some of the physical requirements for this role:
  • Must be willing to work a rotating call out schedule
  • Lift up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Must have ability to wear required PPE
  • Ability to work outside in any weather condition
  • Work at heights, climbing stairs, and climbing ladders
  • Must be able to pass a fit test and pulmonary function test for the purposes of wearing a respirator and recertify annually or as needed
  • Walk on uneven ground and up to 3 miles per shift
  • Must be willing to work a rotating schedule
  • Work in an environment containing coal dust, hazardous noise, confined space, and in hot or cold environments
