Major Function and Scope:

1. Determine job priorities working with maintenance manager, plant manager and department managers or supervisors.

2. Makes required checks/test on plant equipment at start of shift and makes repairs and adjustments as needed.

3. Performs “check list” type duties on plant equipment when required.

4. Performs preventive maintenance on plant equipment.

5. Assists in installing/relocating plant equipment.

6. Fills out and files or forwards to the appropriate individual forms and check sheets as required.

7. Repairs/adjusts plant equipment as needed.

8. Operate company vehicle as needed.

9. Complete work orders as needed.

10. Follow all written procedures when performing lockout/tagout.

11. Change battery in pump house.

12. Change propane tank on powered industrial truck and fill propane tanks as needed.

13. When changing lights in weave room, put up flashing sign at entrance of aisle and let weaver/fixer know you are changing lights.

14. Replace drum of cleaning solution for scrubber use.

15. After working on electrical box, make sure you put the cover back on. Must follow OSHA standards.

16. Go to the pump house during a code red and check the pump house.

17. Replace oil drum in area, when needed.

18. Cleans out chopper cage

20. General Duties

a. Participate in Safety programs and Neighborhood Watch.

b. Works safely and orderly.

c. Notify supervision of any hazardous or unsafe conditions.

d. Maintains clean and orderly work area.

e. Perform all necessary miscellaneous work pertaining to the above job duties.

f. Any other duties assigned by management


Type of Experience and Knowledge:

Required – Must be able to read and write in manner indicated on application. Experience working in an industrial maintenance environment, AC/DC electrical up to 600 volts, basic electronics and reading blue prints and schematics. New employees may be required to take and pass a mechanical aptitude test.

Preferred – Post-secondary education and diploma in AC/DC Electrical, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or closely related field. General industrial maintenance experience in welding, cutting, metal working, steam, hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanics.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work assigned schedule. Must be self-motivated. Must have the ability to troubleshoot a variety of plant machinery malfunctions and computerized equipment, steam, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and mechanical systems. Must be able to obtain a powered industrial equipment license. Ability to legibly fill out forms/check sheets. Ability to work at heights. Ability to perform logical and mathematical calculations. Ability to learn job specific computer skills.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports to Shift Supervisor or Maintenance Manager and works with minimum amount of supervision.

DIRECTION EXERCISED:

Independently determines job priorities. Limited to personal activities required to perform job duties.


Competencies:

  • Ability to serve as the technical expert within the scope of the position.
  • Ability to analyze, research, interpret and apply technical solutions for unique and complex machine malfunctions.
  • Ability to anticipate and proactively pursue maintenance problems within the scope of the position.
  • Ability to use manuals and diagrams to repair machines.
  • Requires the ability to include management, peers and subordinates in the decision-making process.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and efficiently, which includes the ability read, interpret and follow directions from managers; and, the ability to work effectively with other members of the maintenance team, extrusion lead operators and loom technicians.
  • Knowledge of lockout tag-out and other job-related safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of schematics and technical drawings and manuals.
  • Excellent documentation and recordkeeping skills are required.

Other Pertinent Job Information:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Frequency – Amount – Description)

STANDING / WALKING:

Ability to stand and walk continuously during an eight (8) to twelve (12) hour shift.

SITTING: Ability to sit on powered industrial equipment, floor or stool for short period of time while performing maintenance type work.

MOVING SELF: Moves throughout buildings and grounds as needed during an eight (8) to twelve (12) hour shift.

CLIMBING: Must have the ability to climb all types of steps and ladders as required to complete assigned task. May be required to climb to the top of silo (seventy-two (72) feet) to do repairs.

MOVING (MATERIALS): (Lifting – carrying – pushing – pulling) Pushing/pulling – Must have the ability to push/pull wenches and hand other tools repetitively throughout an eight (8) to twelve (12) hour shift. Push any (movable type) equipment. Get help when needed. Lifting/carrying – Must have the ability to lift plant equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds without mechanical assistance. Get help when needed.

HEARING / SPEAKING: Must be able to communicate with co-workers and management as needed to perform job duties.

REACHING: Vertical- Ability to reach up to full arm extension when performing breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance or other job duties Horizontal- Ability to reach up to full arm extension when performing breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance or other job duties. Ability to lie on floor and reach overhead up to full arm extension when performing breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance or other job duties.

VISUAL ACUITY: Must have adequate normal, color vision and depth perception to perform job duties. Ability to see small openings and parts when disassembling and reassembling plant equipment.

BENDING / STOOPING: Ability to bend, stoop, squat or kneel as needed to perform job duties. Ability to crouch, kneels, bend at waist and assume awkward positions when performing breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance or other job duties.

MENTAL ABILITIES: Ability to make decisions regarding work priorities. Ability to use computer to look up parts and technical manuals. Ability to perform mathematical and logical calculations. Ability to operate powered industrial trucks and scissor lifts safely. OTHER: Fingering - Ability to demonstrate good tactile discrimination and functional sensation. Fine motor coordination - Ability to manipulate small tools, button and knobs utilize fine motor coordination. Grip - Ability to grip with whole hand and fingers, both one handed and two handed grip when using tools and manipulating parts.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: Must wear safety glasses with permanent side shields and hearing protection always when in the warehouse, maintenance shop and on the production floor. Must wear approved safety shoes. Must adhere to plant clothing and footwear policy. Wear personal protective equipment as required by task at hand. Perform lockout/tag-out procedures as required. When using scissor lift or working at heights, use fall protection per Mohawk’s Fall Protection Program. Do not enter confined spaces.

MACHINE, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT: Powered industrial equipment, computer, printer, hand tools, power tools, metal working tools, ladders, buffer, gauges and precision measuring instruments.

MATERIALS USED: Machine parts, manuals, metal, welder, torch, lubricants and chemicals.
