About the Department
The purpose of the BTEC Bioprocess Engineering department is to maintain, operate and when required, upgrade Large and Intermediate Scale Bioprocessing, as well as Central Service and Process Utilities areas in the BTEC building in accordance with all applicable codes and regulations, keeping within minimum liabilities and minimum interruption to BTEC operations. The Bioprocess Engineering personnel are also expected to assist with course development and instruction if required. All of the BTEC lab equipment is maintained only by BTEC personnel, NCSU facilities does not work on our equipment.

Essential Job Duties
  • Provide design review, installation, maintenance and repair of biomanufacturing process equipment, process utilities, and clean room facilities.
  • The scope of this includes mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building renovation and modification projects as well as being a building liaison to serve as a central point of contact for day to day maintenance and services from the facilities division outside our scope of responsibility as well as 24 hour contact for NCSU fire and police.

Other Responsibilities
  • Any other duties assigned by Supervisor or upper management in BTEC.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s Degree in the Engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or and equivalent combination of training and experience.

Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.



Other Required Qualifications
  • Ability to visualize and conceptualize to explain to engineering team and area owners the idea behind the repair, up fit or upgrade to existing equipment.
  • Ability to service, maintain, troubleshoot and repair biomanufacturing process equipment. Equipment to include but not limited to fermenters, centrifuges, homogenizers, chromatography systems, and tangential flow systems, water purification system, clean air compressors, gas manifold, steam generators, and pH waste systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment
  • 2+ years, AS in Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or other related discipline. Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.
