Summary Description:


The CDRT Electrician is a key resource for the oversight, installation, repair, schedule, and maintenance of electrical systems at Churchill Downs Racetrack, Frontside, Backside and Trackside. Success in this position requires exceptional knowledge of electrical installations and consultative skills; the ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-focused environment; curiosity and a passion for timely execution of projects; helping others achieve results.


The position incorporates Master or Journeyman Electrician practice and the candidate must be capable of leading, communicating, and critical thinking. The CDRT Electrician must be able to install, maintain and repair electrical systems, facilities and related electrical controls and devices. Helps maintains buildings, grounds and equipment, as well as utilities and their use; attends maintenance and engineering activities with other departments, attends staff meetings, as well as safety and other meetings, as directed by the Director of Facilities Operations.


Essential Job Functions/ Duties:


  • Adhere to state and local building regulations.
  • Understand and apply blueprints and technical diagrams.
  • Maintain related records concerning time, labor and materials. Maintain log of tasks performed, and write equipment reports as necessary.
  • Conduct or oversee hands-on troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance of electrical equipment.
  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electrical equipment.
  • Serve as primary onsite technical resource of electrical infrastructure systems and equipment specifically at Churchill Downs Race Track in preparation for and during Spring Meet.
  • Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
  • Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
  • Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
  • Creating standard practice processes.
  • Informs appropriate management of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, and electrical equipment including but not limited to programmable controls, numeral controls, power supplies, drives, gages and test equipment.
  • Ability to work race day schedule during Churchill Downs Race Track Spring Meet.
  • Manage vendor relationships for electrical maintenance and retrofit work.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repair and maintenance functions as directed.
  • Provides electrical support for special events.


Education, Training, And Experience


  • 15 years of proven experience in the electrical area required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas. High school diploma, university or its equivalent required
  • Technical degree or accredited apprenticeship program or documentable Master or Journeyman Electrician level operation, maintenance and repair experience in the Electrician trade


Licenses And Other Requirements


  • Valid Kentucky Driver’s License
  • Valid gaming license
  • Active Kentucky state-issued Electrician Journeyman or masters Electrician license
