Overview and Responsibilities
Summary
We are seeking a dedicated System Administrator VMware for our Information Systems Technology department. Responsible for providing technical support within the team of Systems Administrators. Areas of support includes but are not limited to; VMware, Horizon, Veeam, Windows Servers administration. Support includes specification, installation and testing of computer systems within established standards and guidelines. Expected to work independently within management and company guidelines. Will have mentoring responsibility for other System Administrators, Desktop and Help-desk Support Technical positions and will work with management in establishing processes, controls, security and strategy around system support initiatives. Responsible to manage and maintain a large VMware installation including LINUX and Windows Servers' virtual machines and storage resources. On-call rotation required, to work after hours and on the weekends as necessary. Excellent understanding of VMware 6 and 6.5 in addition to VMware Horizon.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures data and media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations
  • Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels
  • Evaluates system specifications, input and output processes and working parameters for hardware and software compatibility
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer of system support procedures and nuances
  • Develops and promotes standard operating procedures
  • Lead role in a wide area of technical expertise
  • Assists to develop backup and recovery strategies
  • Responsibility for high complexity enterprise systems
  • Ensures workstation and server data integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions
  • Works with and understands the roles of members of other departments
  • Training of staff members within and without the Systems Administration Department
  • Installs and maintains Hypervisor, operating systems and related software to ensure stable performance
  • Troubleshoots networking and operating systems problems
  • Performs other duties as necessary
  • Incorporate Information Security Best Practices in all aspects of Systems Management
  • Recommendations in design and new system specification
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Mentoring of other System Administrators and Technical Support staff

Qualifications
Employment is contingent on
  • Drug screen (when applicable for the position)
  • Valid driver's license in state of residence with a clean driving record (when applicable for the position)
  • Background investigation (company-wide)
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience, familiarity and knowledgeable of Windows Servers operating environments, MS Active Directory and Veeam backups as well as exposure to industry products, terminology and trends
  • 3 years of system administration experience in VMware 6 and 6.5 as well as Horizon environments

  • Interpret a variety of instructions in a variety of communication mediums
  • Learn new skills and technology as needed
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Make decisions when dealing with multiple alternatives
Physical Demands
  • Requires close vision to small print on computer and or paperwork
  • Occasionally moves equipment such as a personal computer or display weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Requires sitting, walking, standing, talking or listening (move about the facility, physically communicating to others)
