Job Description
As an Infection Preventionist, you will act as a subject matter expert and consultant to customers such as patients, staff, physicians and departmental personnel to improve infection prevention within the organization. To help achieve our mission, you will continuously seek to maintain integrity and a high degree of competency in the areas of infection prevention and control as well as epidemiology. Your ability to use an epidemiologic approach to conducting infection surveillance and analysis to monitor the effectiveness of prevention and control strategies that are consistent with the organization's goals and objectives is of vital importance.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provides effective education and training regarding infection prevention and control (i.e. New Team Member Orientation, unit based in-services, community/patient/family education).
  • Collaborates with Team Member Health on implementing prevention and control measures to reduce the risk of occupational exposure to infectious diseases.
  • Recommends new or revised practices/procedures based on an epidemiologic review of scientific literature and currently accepted evidence based infection prevention and control strategies.
  • Collaborates with the Public Health Department by following up on reportable diseases/conditions requiring public health action.
  • Reviews policies and procedures related to team member exposure prevention and control (e.g. bloodborne pathogen exposure, prevention and control plan, TB prevention and control plan).
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and/or accreditation standards on infection prevention and control.
  • Facilitates changes within the organization to improve the culture surrounding infection prevention through the use of concepts outlined in performance improvement strategies.
  • Participates in disaster preparedness at the operating unit and system level by developing and reviewing policies, procedures and plans to promote disaster preparedness.

Requirements For Consideration

Minimum Education - Bachelors Degree MT(ASCP) Registry or BA/BS, BSN

Schedule - Fulltime M-F Day

Experience - Two-Three years of nursing, MT or Public Health Experience within a hospital

Licensing - CIC within two years
