The Intervention and Support Specialist will work directly with community providers to provide consultations and behavior analysis with an emphasis on how the environment, mental health, disability, and medical needs affect the individual. The consultations rely on data to analyze the behavior while providing specific interventions and consistent monitoring to maintain success. The position works collaboratively with providers in the ID/DD field, state agencies, and other community resources. The position also is responsible for working with Community Support Providers to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of program participants; assuring compliance with state and federal regulations necessary to maintain eligibility for federal financial participation; and monitoring Community Support Provider activities to promote continuous quality improvement. In addition, this position works to ensure people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are provided with choices to be active participants and contributing members of their communities.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, mental health counseling, or other human service-related field is the minimum.

Experience working with positive behavior supports.

Knowledge of:

  • Person-centered practices;
  • Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships and demonstrate compassion, respect, courtesy, and tact when interacting with others.
  • Disability practices;
  • Applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to intellectual/developmental disabilities; and
  • Services and support for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities;
  • Positive behavioral supports, functional behavior analysis, applied behavior analysis, behavior intervention practices, and people's first language;

Ability to:

  • Work efficiently with other staff and community organizations;
  • Interpret and implement state and federal rules and regulations pertaining to intellectual/developmental disabilities;
  • Gather and analyze data and make suggestions to improve policies and procedures;
  • Communicate information effectively and accurately;
  • Exercise sound judgment in the performance of assigned responsibilities;
  • Prepare clear and concise documentation, reports, and correspondence;
  • Assume initiative and direction with minimal supervision.
  • Effectively plan and organize work activities, adjust to multiple demands, and prioritize tasks to complete assignments and meet schedules and deadlines; and

This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
