We are looking for a Human Resources Specialist to join our team in Appleton Wisconsin! McCain Food’s facility in Appleton Wisconsin is a large-scale food processing plant, employing approximately 500 employees. This site specializes in the production of jalapeño poppers and other appetizers. Fun Fact: the jalapeño popper was trademarked at this site!


Position Summary:

The HR Specialist is responsible for providing local HR support in employee relations, engagement & retention and leave of absences. As the successful candidate, you will leverage your knowledge of local requirements and best practices while maintaining a high level of professionalism and always keeping confidentiality top of mind. **Please note this is an onsite position.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting department leaders and local HR with developing plans to improve on all things related to employee engagement, recognition and retention
  • Process voluntary and involuntary separations for in-scope employees, mitigating any potential risks and adhering to local legal requirements
  • Develop, support and maintain the employee engagement program initiatives that reinforce the company’s goals and culture
  • Manage in-scope employee leave of absence process, including working closely with vendor, and initiating the leave of absence within the HR system. Examples include Short Term Disability
  • Execute local recruitment efforts, such as maintaining job requisitions, running talent acquisition events, proactively sourcing candidates, and developing / maintaining the local candidate pool(s)
  • Work with any relevant local authorities / vendors to ensure local legal requirements and business needs are adhered to
  • Work with the Employee Experience Centre and HRBPs to manage reductions in force / redundancy efforts, as well as employee retirements
  • Assist with the management and implementation of employee retention initiatives
  • Manage candidate assessment and selection process to ensure alignment of talent and local business needs / succession plans
  • Act as a McCain brand ambassador engaging with all levels of employees onsite
  • Manage in-scope employee movement and contract management, including the updating / changing of personal and individual work data
  • Share insights and trends with key stakeholders to drive more effective / efficient HR customer service delivery

  • Support people managers and employees with employee relations issues (activities may include conducting investigations, managing appeals, addressing misconduct, issuing discipline, suspension, and / or termination)


Qualifications:

  • Strong business-specific knowledge coupled with project management and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of HR systems is beneficial, particularly SuccessFactors and Service Now
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with impact and handle confidential information
  • 3-5 years of experience as a HR Generalist
  • Proven teamwork capabilities; strong relationship management and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • Ability to apply HR knowledge / experience across HR policies, programs, processes and functions
  • Professional Human Resources certification would be an asset
  • Strong knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
