Job Description
What to Expect
This role will be the on-the-ground leader for Tesla fleet, helping all Site Operations teams manage their vehicles and drivers. The role will oversee the fleets at our Gigafactory Austin site and will be responsible for coordinating vehicle maintenance, ensuring driver compliance, managing vehicle rentals, and supporting quarterly vehicle audits. The role will involve frequent communication across all levels of Factory Operations, including installers, service teams, and managers. It will also require strong organizational skills to track the necessary Department of Transportation compliance documentation. Additionally, this role may be required to assist with Warehouse operations from time to time.
What You’ll Do
  • Establish efficient routes and transportation schedules
  • Ensure all fleet members have proper licensure and up-to-date training
  • Coordinate drivers, hostlers and shack personnel
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Create and manage new product test programs to collect data to drive improvements before market launch
  • Monitor team to ensure adherence to schedule
  • Tesla people leaders are responsible for a variety of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) assurance functions, including ensuring their teams’ safety training is current, documenting EHS incidents, proactively correcting workplace hazards in the areas, and empowering others to continuously improve operations.
  • Build a strong, motivated team capable of consistently delivering high quality performance with exceptional communication.
  • Ensure safe driving practices and maintain yard accuracy
  • Work directly with drivers, hostlers and checkpoint teams
  • Coordinate regular maintenance on all vehicles; communicate with repair shop when needed
What You’ll Bring
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including but not limited to peers and customers.
  • Ability to perform repetitive duties, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods of time
  • Must be adaptable to change and work well under pressure, manage competing demands, and meet tight deadlines with strong follow through and decision-making skills
  • Must be able to handle materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Proven leadership ability and a track record as a mentor to employees.
  • Experience implementing and improving standard operating procedures preferred
  • Open availability to work all shifts, including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred, or outstanding equivalent experience
  • Experience managing CDL drivers is preferred and personal driving experience
  • Physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office and customer account management software
