This is responsible and professional public contact work assisting in the promotion, recruitment, planning and implementation of large-scale special events, including major sporting events, cultural events, conventions or other activities that attract national and international attention. Work involves the preparation of proposals to host major community, sports, and entertainment events; contract negotiations with major event promoters; preparing grant proposals and applications, contracts, and other documents required for enhancing development; developing cooperative professional relationships with local business groups, civic associations, trade associations, business and community organizations as necessary in the recruitment and coordination of major events; and working with the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Sports Commission, St. Petersburg Sports Alliance, St. Petersburg Baseball Commission, Florida Sports Foundation, Visit St. Pete/Clearwater, St. Pete Arts and similar agencies and organizations to identify potential events for the City. Work also includes overseeing special projects, coordinating meetings and conferences for professional organizations and responding to local and national inquiries from citizens and organizations regarding special events, co-sponsorship, program sponsorship, event planning and implementation. An employee in this position must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends.
Salary: $70,554 - $113,506

To QualifyMinimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Have a valid Bachelor’s degree.
- Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
- Have knowledge of best practices and methods in event recruitment, planning, organization, and production in multiple event types in various facilities configurations.
- Have some experience in multiple event logistics including ADA access and crowd control.
- Have some experience making presentations to a variety of stakeholders including professional organizations, community leaders, and the public.
- Be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
- Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have extensive experience in event recruitment, planning, organization, and production.
- Possess one or more of the following certifications: Certified Meeting Professional (CMP), Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP), Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP).
