Job Description
Senior Software Engineer – Customer Experience Engineering

Our product design and development teams are always working to revolutionize the way our customers interact with Starbucks, both inside and outside our stores.
The Customer Experience Engineering team builds best-in-breed mobile applications that are used by Starbucks customers every day. And, in keeping with our best-in-breed user experiences, we are currently maturing our UI/UX orchestration platform, Orchestra, that supports all our web and native (iOS/Android) clients. Orchestra is a GraphQL platform that provides robust and flexible APIs for the clients, while scaling to millions of requests a day.
In this role, you will be an individual contributor in the creation and development of the platform that will be a strategic part of the Starbucks mobile technology and architecture. The ideal candidate will work closely with our client teams to develop APIs that make the development process easier and faster, while also maintaining a focus on scalability and reliability.

Summary Of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions of the Senior Software Engineer include but are not limited to the following:
  • Design, develop, implement, document, and test APIs.
  • Participate in engineering reviews with your team to ensure software development standards are met
  • Mentor engineers and help shape the engineering culture through establishing best-practices.
  • Develop robust APIs and schemas in GraphQL that will support client functionality
  • Resolve, mitigate, and perform root cause analysis on production issues. Contribute to production support documentation.
  • Collaborate with team members to recommend new software development technologies and development processes.
  • Participate in requirements gathering and functional specification activities.
  • Participate in design and architectural enhancements to core platforms
Summary Of Experience
  • Performing rotational 24x7 production support duties for a live customer facing application (2 years)
  • Working with process owners and identifying information technology solutions that enable business process improvements (5 years)
  • Proficiency in the following technologies: GraphQL, JavaScript, Node.js, REST APIs, JSON
  • Service oriented or RESTful API development (4 years)
  • Application development and/or object oriented programming experience (5 years)
  • Desired proficiencies: Apollo Federation, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Redis, Scripting Tools (Groovy, Ansible, YAML), Jenkins, Splunk, New Relic, Atlassian Stack
  • Working in Agile development teams (4 years)
  • Development, deploying and supporting large enterprise scale solutions (5 years)
  • Proficient development experience with GraphQL, Node.js, Apollo (4 years)
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Experience with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, DevOps models, and Test-driven development processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Solid understanding of OO principles, Design Patterns and Software Extensibility Models
  • Growth mindset
  • Experience with Lean/Continuous Improvement practices
  • Experience developing APIs and data-schemas at large scale
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
