We are seeking a District Support Specialist (Education Program Specialist 2)
to join our Office of Education, Innovation, and Improvement at the
Oregon Department of Education
. This is a limited duration position scheduled to end on June 30, 2025.

What you will do!
The primary purpose of this role is to provide direct coaching, facilitation and support to school districts participating in the Intensive Program under the student Investment Account. These districts are statutorily determined to be the highest-need school districts in the state and are invited into the program.

The role is fast-paced and requires thoughtful consideration of multiple perspectives in elevating strategies and approaches to improve educational outcomes and experiences for Oregon’s students and families.
Typical Duties Include:
  • Working to align other agency initiatives through robust internal collaboration and planning.
  • Serving as the point person for school districts involved with the program.
  • Leading the Intensive Program team to identify, invite and onboard school districts to the program.
  • Serving on the Student Success Team, which is responsible for making recommendations as to the use of grant in aid as well as monitoring the implementation of improvement strategies and activities.

What are we looking for?
Master's degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university and five years of education experience in the specialty area under recruitment (e.g., classroom teacher, counselor, itinerant service provider), two years of which includes leadership experience (e.g., lead teacher, program coordinator or director, school administrator) in the specialty area under recruitment.
A Doctorate in Education or related field from an accredited university may substitute for two years of the education experience, but not for the two years of leadership experience.
An Oregon Standard Administrative License (issued by Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission) may substitute for the two years of leadership experience.
Desired Attributes:
Candidates who are the most competitive will possess a compelling combination of the following background, skills, and experience:
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Recent experience in the past five years as a professional coach or district administrator in a school or school district
  • Expertise in developing, executing, and communicating progress on strategies that address opportunity, belief, and access gaps.
  • Expertise and experience in K-12 content standards and instructional strategies
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of equity stance and commitments. This may include the Oregon Equity Lens and how it is currently used with statewide initiatives, such as High School Success (Measure 98), School Improvement efforts, English Learner State Plan, or other examples.
  • Demonstrated skill in relationship-building across lines of difference as well as holding tough conversations, engaging tension, and navigating complexity.
  • Deep understanding of implicit bias and structural racism, and experience evaluating and coaching others in these areas.
  • Experience in effectively delivering professional learning with facilitative awareness and capacity for ongoing group/community dynamics
