Our human resources team, (we prefer to simply call them “people”) play an integral role in every aspect of our hotels. They are responsible for recruiting (and retaining) the best talent and then keeping them happy. And each one of our amazing People members keeps us humble and focused. We’re currently searching for a Director of People Operations, who will be the guru of People, processes and programs at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay.


The People Operations Manager is the key to a high-performance culture that emphasizes our brand mission and point of view, as well as upholds ambitious standards for every team member, sets them up to attain challenging goals and evolves the workforce and SH culture through ongoing development and ever-evolving needs of the hotel.


Development of the Human Resources Department

  • Develops and monitors an annual budget that includes People Operations services, employee recognition, sports teams support, company philanthropic giving, and administration.
  • Monitors administration to established standards and procedures. Identifies opportunities for improvement and resolves any discrepancies.
  • Establishes departmental measurements that support the accomplishment of the company's strategic goals.
  • Leads the development of department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Participates in executive, management, and company team meetings.
  • Conducts a continuing study of all People Operations policies, programs, and practices to keep management informed of new developments.
  • Develops and administers programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the company.
  • Oversees and manages the work and development of the People Operations staff.

Human Resources Information Systems HRIS

  • Manages and maintains participation on Beekeeper, recruiting, culture and sharing key information.

Training and Development

  • Leads the implementation of the performance management system that includes performance development plans .
  • Defines all People Operations training programs and assigns the authority / responsibility of People Operations and managers within those programs.

Employment

  • Interviews management- and executive-level candidates; serves as an interviewer for position finalists.
  • Establishes and leads the recruiting practices and procedures necessary to recruit and hire a superior workforce.

Employee Relations

  • Reviews, guides, and approves management recommendations for employment terminations.
  • Leads the implementation of company safety and health programs.
  • Conducts investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth.
  • Formulates and recommends People Operations policies and objectives for the company with regard to employee relations.
  • Partners with management to communicate People Operations policies, procedures, programs and laws.
  • Monitors and advises managers and supervisors in the progressive discipline system of the company.
  • Determines and recommends employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee morale and motivation.

Compensation

  • Leads competitive market research to establish pay practices to attract, recruit and retain talent.
  • Monitors all pay practices and systems for effectiveness and cost containment.

Benefits

  • Leads the development of benefit orientations and other benefit training.

Law

  • Leads company compliance with all existing governmental and labor legal and government reporting requirements including any related to the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), the Department of Labor, worker compensation, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and so forth. Maintains minimal company exposure to lawsuits.
  • Protects the interests of employees and the company in accordance with company People Operations policies and governmental laws and regulations.

Organization Development

  • Encourages community activities and acts as a strong liaison with hotel schools thus creating Internship opportunities for talented students.
  • Directs a process of organizational planning that evaluates company structure, job design, and personnel forecasting throughout the company.
  • Manages employee communication and feedback through such avenues as company meetings, suggestion programs, employee satisfaction surveys, monthly Listening sessions, employee focus groups and one-on-one meetings.
  • Promotes a culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Identifies and monitors the organization's culture so that it supports the attainment of the company's goals and promotes employee satisfaction’s culture so that it supports the attainment of the company's goals and promotes employee satisfaction.
  • Designs and directs and manages a company-wide process of organization development that addresses issues such as succession planning, superior workforce development, key employee retention, organization design, and change management.
  • Manages the company-wide committees including the wellness, training, environmental health and safety, activity, and culture and communications committees.


About you...

  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources or Business.
  • Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations and ongoing community involvement preferred.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, and training and development.
  • Experience working with ADP Workforce Now is a plus.
  • Experience in luxury hotels as Assistant Director of People operations or Director for a minimum of five years
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
