The firm seeks an experienced professional to create, implement and manage firmwide diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. The position is responsible for consulting and collaborating with key internal stakeholders to develop and implement diversity, equity and inclusion strategies, policies, programs, and initiatives. The role will provide hands-on opportunities to help shape and execute the roadmap for achieving our diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and to further develop our inclusive workplace and shared sense of belonging.


Primary responsibilities include:

  • Works with the Director of Pro bono and Community Relations to identify activities and sponsorships that support equality and diversity in our communities. Ensures diverse personnel are put forth for leadership roles and recognition within the firm and community.
  • Supervises and supports the development of the Diversity & Inclusion Specialist.
  • Analyzes data with respect to recruiting, retention, and promotion of personnel across all dimensions of diversity. Creates systems to track and disseminate diversity metrics, including responses to client requests and surveys, and various other external reporting requirements.
  • Works with the recruiting team to support recruitment of diverse lawyers. Helps to maintain relationships with law school minority organizations, local and national minority bar associations, organizations promoting diversity and equality in the community, and other diversity-focused organizations.
  • Develops and implements DEI initiatives in close collaboration with CODIE and leaders of HR, recruiting, professional development, marketing and communications, business development, other business team leaders, firm management and committees.
  • Methodically monitors strategies, tactics, and results; and routinely provides reports and updates to firm management.
  • Creates and manages the diversity budget including events, diversity-specific training programs, sponsorships, memberships, and other programs. Develops feedback mechanisms and metrics to evaluate program effectiveness that leads to iterative improvement.
  • Works day-to-day with the Chairs of the Committee on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity (“CODIE”), the Women’s Leadership Initiative (“WLI”), Brownstein Pride and Tapestry, our employee resource groups, to prioritize and implement the firm’s diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities and ensures that such priorities are aligned with the firm’s culture program, the firm’s strategic plan, and overall budget.
  • Facilitates a consultative and systematic approach to DEI initiatives, training, and communication.
  • Ensures that DEI programs and communications are coordinated with and reflect the input of key stakeholders and the marketing and communications team.
  • Maintains a high-profile within the legal and business communities. Regularly briefs the Chair of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, CODIE and firm management on trends, programs, and successes at other firms.


The successful candidate will possess the following experience and skills:

  • A recognized thought-leader on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong consultative skills, including establishing relationships of trust and confidence at all levels of the firm.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in DEI, human resources, or professional development.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, competitive benchmarking skills and ability to apply innovative practices that deliver business results.
  • Strong administrative experience, problem-solving skills, organization skills and attention to detail is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities. Builds effective internal relationships in a matrix leadership structure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience of managing budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and articulate a strategic vision and proven experience with driving that vision throughout an organization.
  • Must have the ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion of all firm information.
  • Some travel will be required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills necessary to interface at all levels internally and externally and present recommendations and proposals in a concise and comprehensible manner.
  • High level of diplomacy and cultural and political sensitivity, including when addressing challenging and sensitive issues.
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years’ experience leading diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in a large, complex organization. JD degree and experience in a law firm is highly preferred. Experience with political organizations and/or lobbying is helpful.

We are offering a wide range salary for this role as our salary will match up with the years of experience the successful candidate possesses, ranging from $170,000 - $225,000.
