In this key role, the Director, Agile PMO will report directly to the Head of Strategy & Ops and is responsible for defining and enabling the enterprise, operational, and cultural components that will drive our global Agile transformation.


At Pure Storage, the Director, Agile PMO holds both leadership and management roles in the APMO. The Director, Agile PMO is responsible for various methods and practices around provisioning capabilities into the business, as well as improving the overall agile maturity across the organization. As part of this undertaking the Director, Agile PMO will help define and build our global Agile strategies, and then work with all levels of the organization to affect positive, sustainable change.


As a natural servant leader, this role will develop and support a learning organization model through mentorship and coaching, encouraging training and continuous improvement throughout. The Director, Agile PMO embodies and enables an agile culture, fosters Communities of Practice, provides community engagement opportunities, and offers career development guidance.


Experience in metric-driven delivery, and lean methodologies, will be required to build the best-in-class delivery assurance required at the enterprise level. As an arm of the overall governance function, the Director, Agile PMO is responsible for supporting and enabling the organization’s portfolios, products, programs and structured work efforts.


Director, Agile PMO, through collaboration with peers, will drive the execution of strategy. Supporting the implementation and management of productivity tools to measurably improve performance. As a leader within the Digital Transformation Group this role is not static and will integrate constantly changing dynamics into an evolving enterprise methodology and delivery practice. The Director, Agile PMO must combine strong delivery and lean process experience, and a proven track record of transforming large scale delivery from traditional methodologies to agile and beyond.


The Director, Agile PMO ensures that the work of the Agile Portfolio Management Office (APMO) adds value, is relevant to the strategy of the organization, and establishes and meets strategic OKRs. They will balance agility with the need for formal risk management approaches through formal processes, whilst applying empirical continuous improvement to meet the control needs of our business and global regulatory partners.


What You’ll Do


Agile Leadership


  • Leads the identification and development of APMO roles, organizational design and recruitment appropriate to deliver the agreed-upon APMO goals and objectives
  • Engage the organization to ensure continual feedback and identify emerging methodology and alignment needs
  • Provide Agile thought leadership for the organization and advise the wider delivery community on how best to apply these principles to project and program delivery; act as an SME to coach/mentor others
  • Engages senior leadership and business partners to define the APMO mission, goals and operating model, and releases this after senior management approval, in the form of the APMO Mission Statement.
  • Provides support to goal coaches and KPI leaders ensuring that culture, behaviors and mindsets support the organization’s values.
  • Accountable to build and maintain the agile-at-scale competency and talent strategy at the enterprise level with direct oversight of methodology guidelines and the Agile capability team
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to create and maintain the right mind-set and culture to embed continuous improvement.
  • Instill a learning culture to continuously inspect and adapt methodology and efficiency.
  • Evolve and continually improve the interdependencies between business models and operating practices, integrating waterfall, iterative, and agile delivery models into one, cohesive delivery strategy to best meet the evolving business needs.
  • Develops and leads the Agile Practice, putting in place the systems, processes and ways of working to sustain a high performing team, where skill development, increased agility, collaboration and improved ways of working are key to success.
  • Accountable for the APMO team with two primary focus areas; Enterprise Performance and Lean Governance
  • Evangelizes, among the APMO stakeholders and organizational leadership, a consensus around the strategic vision, associated missions and the role of the APMO to foster a product oriented culture and mindset
  • Accountable for the consistency of Digital Transformation Group’s operating methodology and associated processes


Enterprise Performance & Lean Governance


  • Ensure that the organization has right level of visibility to current and upcoming work
  • Ensure alignment to the cross-departmental roadmaps, create a collective plan to manage dependencies
  • Participate in Portfolio and Program Management process improvement
  • Fosters collaboration between teams, product managers, portfolio owners and invested stakeholders
  • Facilitate relentless improvement for the organization
  • Indirect oversight of product portfolios providing balance between products and other non-agile initiatives
  • Escalates and tracks organization impediments, removing them where possible without causing detriment
  • Tracks and communicates key organization metrics
  • Manages and optimizes the flow of value through the organization
  • Lead large scale change initiatives to manage interdependencies and provide performance assurance through Lean Governance.
  • Create a strong focus on measuring the impact of the work being delivered
  • Applies a pragmatic risk management stance to design and rollout processes and controls to meet technology needs
  • Assures strategic alignment through prioritization, resource capacity management, key result tracking and program management to achieve strategic vision
  • Responsible for knowledge management techniques and governance to support continued learning throughout the organization
  • Assess enterprise or portfolio performance, using metrics and reporting. Supporting the organization's progression towards a value based operating model.


Requirements


Education


  • Demonstrated experience in leading diverse teams
  • Other Certifications: LeSS, CSP, CSPO, PMP, ACP
  • Scaled Agile Framework Certification (SAFe – SA or SAFe – SPC)
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field with fifteen or more years experience in an agile environment and active participation in an agile community within Storage, IT, technology or software enabled industries.
  • Certified Coaching experience is a plus – ICF-CPP
  • Work experience with practical certification such as
  • Scrum Alliance Certified Agile Leadership (CAL 2)
  • Kanban (KCP, AKT, TKP, Kanban-EXP)


Knowledge And Skills


  • Supports the commitments made by the teams
  • Experience with one or more agile or lean methodologies (Lean, Scrum, Kanban, Devops, FinOps, SAFe).
  • Program management skills and experience, plus significant knowledge of productivity tools with evidence of practical application (which is highly desirable).
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate the strategic vision, and inspire and motivate staff.
  • Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources are often not in direct control of this role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain IT concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to the PMO staff.

The annual base salary range is: $188,000-$301,000. Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations.
