Possesses the knowledge of procedures and policies related to the Radiology department. Activities are specifically directed by the manager. As lead, manages the day-to-day clinical operations of radiology staff, prioritizing workflow, and ensuring the clinical competency of each radiographer, and works to resolve clinical problems as a liaison. As clinical instructor, manages all student programs, provides guidance, and ensures the clinical competency of each student based off education level. Performs a wide variety of specific and specialized duties and procedures on inpatients and outpatients in accordance with orders of physicians. Performs these duties using independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Assumes responsibility and quality of work in designated areas of procedures as required. This position requires a high level of technical and informatics knowledge and skill, and the ability to work in close cooperation with members of a team of physicians, nurses and other technical staff. The individual must be able to work in a fast paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands and to seek managerial assistance as appropriate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Schedules Student rotations taking into account their requirements for licensure.
  • Inspects and maintains emergency cart and supplies as required.
  • Greets all patients by appropriate title, provides education appropriate to the exam and provides a complete medical record to the Radiologist.
  • Adheres to state and federal regulations in radiation safety.
  • Demonstrates the ability to enter orders in EHR, bring exams to TAKEN status.
  • Prioritizes and disseminated tasks to others, train staff in established and new procedures, ensures clinical staff competency and resolves departmental clinical problems. Lead helps to ensure department is compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Takes an active roll in Department Quality Assurance Programs.
  • Prepares and administers all contrast material as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates competency in radiographic and fluoroscopic imaging on inpatients, outpatients, ED patients and in the surgical setting.
  • Effectively manages the PACS technology by bringing exams to Reviewed Status and merging exams as needed.
  • The Lead performs the duties of a Radiologic Technologist and serves as a liaison between management, staff and physicians.
  • Performs quality control on all equipment according to standard procedures.
  • Uses Trajecsys to approve student’s time records, enter competencies, and complete evaluations required by the program in a timely manner.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness of all the radiographic rooms.
  • Participates in process improvement projects, assisting the director/manager with targeting goals and implementing action plans.
  • Expedites patient care by coordinating workflow within the department, problem solving and adapting staff schedules for volumes of the day.
  • Confirms with patient two patient identifiers. (Full Name & DOB).
  • Under the leadership of the Director of Diagnostic Imaging and the Manager of Radiology, the Lead Diagnostic Radiographer will manage the day-to-day clinical operations of the Radiology staff in alignment with the mission, values and goals of the organization.
  • Follows departmental guidelines and protocols in scheduling and documentation of exams and maintaining accurate and complete records relative to the examinations performed.
  • Follows departmental guidelines and protocols in performance of all procedures in diagnostic radiology, and in accordance with Infection Control policies.
  • Supervises student interns participating in the clinical program(s).
  • Provides a weekly class to students of various topics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
1. MA license in Radiography and ARRT in Radiography required.
2. Prior experience and knowledge with PACS and DR technology preferred.
3. Minimum 3 years of diagnostic radiology experience, preferred.
4. BLS certification required.

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE COMPETENCIES:
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age groups of patients regularly served; seeks assistance from resources if other age groups need care.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
Generally clean, well lit, air-conditioned area. Exposure to occupational levels of diagnostic ionizing radiation. Occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals

PHYSICAL EFFORT REQUIRED:
Physical ability to meet the core job responsibilities in accordance with practice setting demands for patient populations regularly served. Requires ability to lift patients on and off x-ray table, lift 10-20lbs daily, requires wearing lead aprons and requires being in front of computers for several hours a day.
SAFETY:
Completes Hospital and Departmental orientation; then annually completes Employee Comprehensive Education, Sexual Harassment, Compliance, and other required trainings and competencies as assigned from time-to-time, and within established timelines for completion.
