Job Summary:

Blavity Inc. is seeking a Deputy Editor to oversee Blavity’s Home & Texture’s daily editorial and content operations.

If you're passionate about home decor, cutting-edge appliances, and savvy personal finance, this might be the perfect role for you.

We're looking for someone who can help us grow Home & Texture from the ground up, making it a go-to hub for multicultural audiences seeking the best in online shopping, emerging products, gift guides, and unbeatable deals. From day one, you'll be working with a team of talented freelancers and influencers to develop content that speaks to the heart of multicultural Millennials — especially those who already own a home or are ready to make that exciting leap.

This isn't just any editorial role, though. As our Deputy Editor, you'll be on the front lines of blending lifestyle media and editorial packaging, designed with a clear focus on search and purchase functionalities. The goal? To create a seamless, enjoyable user experience that also helps to drive our company's revenue.

If you're a creative thinker with a knack for managing dynamic teams, and you're ready to shape a brand from scratch with enormous growth potential, we can't wait to hear from you.

This role reports directly to the Associate Vice President, Consumer Media Content within the Consumer Media Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor site analytics to make sure KPIs and monthly traffic targets are met.
  • Ideate and contribute to Home and Texture building tentpole and evergreen content to grow authority in the space and provide more visibility to designers.
  • Be the last line of defense for grammar, AP style, tone, structure, and brand voice.
  • Own the editorial calendar and collaborate with the team to come up with fresh and engaging content ideas – keeping Blavity’s Home & Texture audience top of mind.
  • Partner with the AVP of Consumer Media and other Commerce leads on team goals while keeping business priorities at the forefront.
  • Supervise a team of contractors and influencers by assigning a healthy balance of trending content and shoppable/affiliate articles per week.
  • Collaborate with creative design and art directors to ensure content is pushing the boundaries of representation within the home decor space
  • Build our finance content to help millennials navigate their financial options for making big home purchases
  • Safeguard content to prevent infringements and guarantee that all information is accurate before distribution.
  • Collaborate with social production team, to ensure content distribution is widely read and reaching new audiences

Qualifications:
  • A healthy appreciation of GIFs and Black culture
  • Open to new challenges and eager to grow within a fast-paced, evolving company
  • A deep knowledge of, passion for, and understanding of the travel industry
  • Technologies: Fluent in Google Suite, Asana, and/or comparable project management suite
  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • A self-starter who can pivot seamlessly as new directives are identified
  • Strong verbal and organization skills along with effective and appropriate written communication, including grammar and AP Style
  • Experience with SEO tools, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics.
  • Required Experience: 5+ years experience with digital publishing, including producing commerce content
  • Additional Qualifications:
  • Experience using affiliate platforms such as Skimlinks, Amazon Associates, and Rakuten
  • Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with personal financial content or content that requires disclosures and compliance

Details:

  • Candidates must be available to work at least 50% in alignment with the Eastern Time Zone.
  • This is a fully remote role; with 20% travel.
  • The salary range for this role is $64,480 - $90,000.
