As a Commercial Underwriter at COUNTRY Financial, you will be delivering high-quality underwriting decisions focused on the growth of new policies and retention of existing clients. You will also partner with our agency force to build relationships and drive profitable growth.
This position offers a hybrid work schedule and is based out of our corporate offices in Bloomington, IL.
How does a Commercial Underwriter make an impact?
- Conducts formal and informal training to financial representatives and agency managers on various aspects of the Property and Casualty insurance business as needed, through specific projects as well as day-to-day occurrences, with an emphasis on Commercial Lines.
- Analyzes the operations and exposures of various commercial lines risks, including new business, renewals, and policy changes (including Certificates of Insurance). Applies standard underwriting guidelines and utilization of various online systems and reference material to thoroughly investigate and determine when to accept, reject, rescind, or modify coverage within authority limit granted. Utilized effective persuasion and negotiation techniques to facilitate the acceptance of underwriting decisions.
- Participates in agency meetings either virtually or in-person. Makes presentations during agency meetings to convey new underwriting or procedural information. Partners with Financial Representatives and Agency Managers to meet growth and profit goals through various activities and initiatives. Field visits may include meeting with high valued clients and more complex risks.
- Provide virtual (on-site when needs dictate) field underwriting and loss control services including risk selection, coverage evaluation, pricing, valuation, and hazard identification for our clients and customers within the assigned territory. Clients and customers include underwriting personnel, financial representatives, policyholders, and prospective clients.
- Partners with the agency mangers within an assigned territory to promote profitable commercial growth, through establishing shared commercial goals, commercial training expectations and planned commercial promotion within their agency.
- Utilizes effective persuasion and negotiation techniques to facilitate the acceptance of underwriting decisions. This includes understanding and using appropriate communication channels (email, phone, video conference) as needed, and engaging with agency personnel accordingly based on the scenario.
Do you have what we're looking for?
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates a basic working knowledge of underwriting principles, policies and coverage.
- Typically requires 4 years of relevant experience or a combination of related experience, education and training.
- Progress towards Certified Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation preferred.
- Knowledge of, or experience with, insurance company operations and financial services products.
- Relevant property casualty insurance experience.
- Ability to work well with others in a production team environment.
