Ophthalmology LTD, the leader delivering medical and surgical eye care for 55 years to the Sioux Falls and surrounding region, is seeking a CEO. Reporting to the physician board, this role oversees the day-to-day operations of the practice’s multiple locations and manages all business development opportunities such as practice expansion and new service lines.
Ophthalmology LTD’s name has become associated with the highest quality of comprehensive medical and surgical eye care. Highly trained ophthalmologists combine their considerable expertise to give each and every patient the best possible care. Ophthalmology LTD delivers medical and surgical treatment for cataracts, glaucoma, corneal diseases, pediatric conditions, as well oculoplastic and vitreoretinal diseases in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and the surrounding region.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in business or related field. Master’s degree (e.g., MBA) preferred.
Proven success in a leadership role, leading a complex medical/healthcare organization and ambulatory surgical center with greater than $15 million in annual revenue. Ophthalmology experience highly preferred.
A work history that includes reporting to a physician-based Board of Directors comprised of at least 5 owners/shareholders.
Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and expansion/growth initiatives.
Experience in HR compliance and coaching, mentoring, and managing supervisors.
Experience in business data analysis, dashboard management, and reporting.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Expertise in business and operations with the ability to achieve results in a collaborative nature.
Transformational and servant leadership skills, with the innate ability to inspire and motivate stakeholders and organizational teams as well as to manage managers.
Confident, transparent communication skills to build consensus and communicate effectively with physicians, payers, and staff at multiple levels.
Solid knowledge of clinical operations key performance indicators and the ability to project and strategize the most effective responses to the data.
Fluency in the local, state, and federal regulatory and compliance requirements associated with a private medical practice.
Business data analysis skills, with the ability to suggest actions based on data and implement plans.
Well-developed collaboration skills, with the ability to lead and work independently as needed.
Thorough grasp of the entire revenue cycle for surgical and non-surgical services.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Business planning, including developing the business plan and new service lines in conjunction with the board, maintaining an organization and communication system to enhance operating efficiency, and acting as the primary interface to the practice for outside consultants.
Operations and productivity, including daily clinical and practice operations and efficiency efforts.
Financial operations, including cooperating on the annual budget, creating financial reports, analyzing financial statements, approving practice expenditures, and monitoring the billing and collection process.
Clinic operations and personnel management, including recruiting, hiring, and dismissing staff; inspiring and motivating staff; delegating in an appropriate manner; and working with managers to optimize schedules.
Corporate overview, including overseeing insurance coverage, overseeing the hardware and software of the practice, conducting periodic reviews of management personnel, and developing outcome measurements and cost-effectiveness guidelines.
Compliance, including establishing plans for compliance with laws and regulatory bodies, monitoring chart documentation, monitoring and acting on quality reports, and maintaining IT compliance.
Implementation of strategic growth plans identified by the partners.
Overseeing growth, development of new service lines, build-out of new location, and the incorporation of new practices, physicians, and staff.
The salary range for this position is $150,000-$250,000, dependent upon skills and experience.
