Job Summary


The Business Systems Analyst I role is intended to align business requirements with technical solutions for a specific program or project. The Business Systems Analyst I is expected to engage during the planning stage of a project. The Business Systems Analyst I works closely with business and technical stakeholders. In addition, the Business Systems Analyst I may work directly with Bread Financials’ external client partners to onboard new clients or enhance capabilities with existing clients.


Part of the Business Systems Analyst I duties may include assisting in testing, production research, configuration updates, production remediation and business integration. Business Systems Analyst I conduct process analysis, needs assessments, and technical solution analysis to align information technology solutions with business initiatives.



Essential Job Functions:


  • Requirement Elicitation/Documentation - Conduct functional process analysis, needs assessments, elicit business and functional requirements to recommend technical solutions that deliver business value. Partners with internal and external customers to document user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify systems. Utilizes written communication skills to write clear requirements and demonstrate the ability to verbally communicate to all levels of stakeholders to ensure the requirements are understood by all. When utilizing Agile Methodology, document requirements via User Stories and acceptance criteria in the Gherkin format. When utilizing Waterfall Methodology, document requirements via traditional requirement statements. Acts as the technical liaison/coordinator between IT (Information Technology) developers and end users for internal and external team projects
  • Data Analysis – Understand database structure and identify relationships. Identify and recommend database enhancements to support business needs. Map data across multiple systems. Write and execute SQL queries to analyze data and use SAS as applicable. Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy by analyzing data and drawing conclusions based upon the data. Create and maintain configuration settings, system documentation, and generate and report on metrics.
  • Business Communications – Demonstrate foundational knowledge of credit card operations, banking, financial, loyalty rewards, and credit card regulatory while working with various areas of the business. May work with clients and Client Partnership for business integration for onboarding new clients and new product capabilities. Demonstrate leadership by driving projects to meet milestone dates, utilizing critical thinking skills to help analyze business problems and recommending solutions, and collaborating with stakeholders to resolve problems and gaining consensus on the best solution.
  • Application Analysis - Demonstrate technical aptitude by understanding current state functionality. Understand application environment, interfaces between applications, and interfaces with third party vendors, including APIs (Application programming interfaces). May work with core mainframe systems and digital systems. Recommend technical solutions for application enhancements to meet business needs. Create and maintain system documentation.
  • Information Security Policy Analysis - Understand current state informational and data security policies and procedures. Identify informational security and data requirements based upon project and system needs. Collaborate with Information Security, IT governance, IT Risk, Global Audit, and Business Continuity partners to ensure that applications comply with all policy and procedures.
  • Infrastructure Analysis – Understand current state infrastructure environment related to each project. Understand the details of business functions to identify, develop and implement effective technology solutions that address small to medium complex issues. Identify system requirements that may impact infrastructure. Communicate infrastructure changes to project stakeholders.
  • SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) Support - Provide requirement traceability and support from business concept to project delivery. Advises in the creation of test plans/scripts to ensure compliance of requirement specification. Validates program designs, unit testing and integration test results to ensure compliance with requirements. Understand defect management and use JIRA. Demonstrate ability to organize and prioritize work to work on multiple projects over the same time.


Reports Into: Technology Head of Scrum Analysts/New Business or Technical Support

Minimum Qualifications


  • Some experience (either through classroom, internship, or work experience) with information systems analysis and/or testing


Preferred Experience


  • Familiarity with the financial services domain or a strong desire to learn about the industry
  • Experience working within a finance organization using strong functional knowledge around financial systems and processes (budgeting, consolidation, forecasting, reporting, financial statements, analytics to achieve results)
  • Experience in an Agile development environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Engineering


Typical Starting Range


$54,100.00 - $98,000.00


Full Salary Range For Position


California:$62,000.00 - $122,500.00


Colorado:$54,100.00 - $103,000.00


New York:$59,500.00 - $122,500.00


Washington:$56,800.00 - $112,400.00


The actual base pay within this range may be dependent upon many factors, which may include, but are not limited to, work location, education, experience, and skills.


Bread Financial offers medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, and other voluntary benefits (including basic and optional life insurance, supplemental medical plans, and short and long-term disability) to eligible associates (regular full-time associates scheduled to work 30 hours per week or more) and their spouses/domestic partners, and child(ren) under the age of 26. New associate elected coverage begins on date of hire (with the exception of disability coverage which has a 6-month waiting period). Six weeks of 100% paid parental leave for eligible parents is available after a 180-day waiting period. Hired associates can immediately enroll in Bread Financial’s 401(k) plan.


All associates receive 11 paid holidays. Associates have discretion in managing their time away from work through the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program and may need to notify and receive approval from their manager prior to taking the time off. Associates receive 80 hours of Paid Sick and Safety Time per calendar year at the beginning of each year and is prorated in the associate’s first year of employment.


Hired associates will be able to elect to purchase company stock during offering periods in June and December. You will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on individual and company performance.
