Description


History Colorado’s publications department is looking for a great writer, editor, and project manager to join our team. We offer a diverse array of digital and print resources, and we are committed to investigating compelling ideas, pushing creative boundaries, and offering memorable opportunities for Coloradans to access and engage with our shared history in a variety of formats. In collaboration with the rest of the Publications Team, the Associate Editor will manage The Colorado Encyclopedia, an online publication offering a diverse range of articles on subjects in Colorado history. They will also facilitate the process of creating and publishing History Colorado resources.


Duties


Managing, maintaining, editing, and overseeing all elements of The Colorado Encyclopedia.


Planning for the encyclopedia’s future, expanding its offerings, and raising awareness of the resource.


Managing budgets for The Colorado Encyclopedia.


Support The Colorado Magazine and The Weekly Digest.


Creating articles and entries for the magazine and digest.


Providing copy editing support for History Colorado.


Support the Managing Editor and Associate Editor in other duties as assigned.


Represent History Colorado in the local historical community at meetings and programs.


Work with volunteers and interns.


Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions Of Employment & Appeal Rights


Demonstrated success in public historian work and writing for broad audiences


Strong historical background, with a robust grasp of Colorado and Western history.


A strong sense of personal accountability and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.


Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for working directly with colleagues, volunteers, members, community groups, and outside stakeholders


An enthusiasm to explore ideas, take risks, amplify diverse voices, and help others discover the relevance of the past to our everyday lives.


Additional Desirable Skills


An eye for and experience with design and layout in print and online
