Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Performing Arts, the Assistant Director of Student Performing Arts will aid in the programmatic development, direction, and execution of the University’s student performing arts and spirit programs. The assistant director will be a key contributor towards the Division’s overall recruitment of incoming student prospects as well as the retention of current, continuing students. Additionally, the assistant director will take a lead role in coordinating Student Performing Arts operations, including facility and resource management and budgeting. The assistant director will also directly manage select student performing arts groups.


Duties and Responsibilities

The assistant director will complement the Director in the ordinary operation of the department.


Recruitment & Retention

  • Coordinate with Director on all Performing Arts retention efforts to include: meeting with students, documenting all notes on students in retention software.
  • Work with the Director of Performing Arts for the recruitment of incoming students, and the recruitment and retention of current students.
  • Plan and execute recruitment efforts to increase awareness and quality applicants for our programs (including but not limited to outreach to guidance counselors, high school performing arts directors, studio owners, etc.)
  • Attend on and off campus recruitment events (Open Houses, Admitted Students Day, conferences, etc.)


Student Performing Arts Operations

  • Support the day-to-day operation of the Iona Student Performing Arts Programs.
  • Maintain records of rosters, scholarships, grants and reports in various tech platforms including Slate and Gaels360
  • At the request of the Director, serve as a representative for the Student Performing Arts Program within various University committees and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Performing Arts directors/coaches and student participants.
  • Assist in the coordination of performances and engagement events

Preferred qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to perform a wide variety of administrative tasks, as required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, as well as the University’s mission, vision and values.
  • Positive attitude; proven ability to work successfully in a team as well as with diverse student populations.
  • Appreciation for the arts and knowledge of current events and trends related to performing arts.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Masters preferred
  • Prior experience in a performing arts discipline in a post-secondary setting preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
