The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Accountant to assist the Accounting team with a broad range of transactions. The position records, maintains, reconciles and analyzes assigned general ledger accounts. Serves as liaison between Accounting and all departments as it relates to cash receipts/accounts receivable inquiries and compliance. Performs various analysis critical to the operations and monthly accounting close. Develops a highly customer service focused environment with an anticipatory, participative, cooperative operating style.
Responsibilities:
- Create and post month end journal entries.
- Maintains and administers travel and expense system, including processing and oversight.
- Performs accounts receivable monthly aging, including providing an accurate aging report that shows calculations to record the accounts receivable reserve. Assists with account analysis and prepares customer reporting and aging analyses as needed.
- Monitors and responds to accounts receivable help desk tickets from Museum departments/external correspondence and reports and tracks different requests such as write offs, matching, wire/ACH transfer payments, etc. Completes requests in a timely manner and closes tickets to avoid escalation.
- Assists with accounts payable process when needed.
- Coordinates the bill collection process, including initiating and monitoring the process of collecting for accounts extremely overdue by notifying billing department and assisting during collection period, including follow-up and reporting back to the accounting team.
- Processes credit card transactions from all revenue channels on an as needed basis.
- Reconcile income statement and balance sheet general ledger accounts as required and assist with variance analysis.
- Assists with external and internal audit requests including but not limited to preparation of year-end audit schedules and analysis, updating narratives, generating schedules and running reports per auditor’s requests, etc.
- Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above and other special projects related to investments and general accounting as required.
- Applies payments to underlying customer records including cash, wires, and checks, minimizing account payment applications.
- Assists with the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures (e.g. testing of general ledger system releases and upgrades, etc.).
- Coordinates account reconciliations, clears all outstanding items from reconciling schedules, including all receivable related accounts to MoMA and associated suspense, allowance, clearance, and discount accounts.
- Reconcile bank account statement/activity to corresponding general ledger cash account including researching and resolving all discrepancies.
- Records and reconciles pledge receivables related to Museum activity, including maintenance of reserve accounts and discounting and year-end financial statement preparation of footnote disclosures.
- Calculates and maintains all receivables to the Museum, including lease tenants and auxiliary revenue streams (e.g., restaurant relationship).
- Assist with recording transactions related to sales, disposal, gains, and losses on investments.
Requirements:
- Self-starter and strong detail orientation with highly organized work habits.
- Team player with the ability to coordinate and communicate with individuals throughout the museum.
- Minimum of three to five years accounting experience, preferably in a museum or not-for-profit environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Experience and proficiency in Financial Force a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting and accounts receivable policies/procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.

Salary range: The salary for this position is $74,370 per annum
